Yann Normand was born in Quebec City in 1974. His career began with drawing and painting, he was later drawn to industrial materials and driven by the desire to express himself through sculpture. “Eternal Love”, his latest body of work, emerges from a reflection on conflicting forces and the need for adversity to achieve balance.
Normand’s work explores the duality between certain forces of nature and strives to show that from darkness emerges light, from chaos arises order, and from death spawns life. The intricate welding of hundreds of pieces of steel turns fragments into forms. As Normand creates his sculptures he is at once constructing but also seeking to deconstruct ideals that we accept without question.
This exhibition celebrates the strength of the human spirit, its ability to overcome hardships and give way to creation through hope and resilience, recalling the inevitable cycle of life, love and death. His works have been exhibited across Canada and the USA.
