“It’s with words that a story begins and it’s with stories that we mess up the world.”
It is through this painted corpus that I wanted to set their ivory mount, silent heralds of the great squares, a platform for these unchanging faces and amplified by a factitious decorum. They are giants, born from the artist’s will to want to mix them with our world. They stand alone in the black squares of the chessboard of cities. We are in the other yard, the white squares from where will follow a disturbing duplicity of the game that will be played between us. They live in the next room. They spy through the holes of locks our gestures, our movements and our slightest palaver between confidants. They? They are the Insilences. They are the eyes that will not be silent, these crystalline temples to the countless words exchanged, lost, which over the years have reformed to become secrets. They are the ones that will make noise one day.

Outdoor exhibition at Morgan Park
Les Luniphantesques is a site-specific work by artist Dominic Besner, whose playful composition will appeal to young and old alike.
To realize his artistic intervention, Dominic Besner chose to use the technique of anamorphosis, which consists of transforming an image that at first glance is unrecognizable, but whose initial figure is restored when observed from a unique angle and in a specific position. Often, the eye is directed through a viewfinder, telescope or mirror. In Morgan Park, you can see the entire creation through the telescope installed at the southeast end of the park.
The work is ephemeral because of the medium used on the trees, which is a 100% natural, ecological and biodegradable milk paint. It will disappear gradually according to the whims of Mother Nature.

Article in french | Dans l’écrin de la salle aux murs noirs, les toiles de Dominic Besner semblent peintes sur des tables lumineuses. C’est affaire d’éclairage et de disposition. C’est aussi affaire de couleurs et d’agencement. L’artiste montréalais natif de l’Ontario a lui-même été étonné par l’effet d’ensemble de l’exposition Strophes d’une poésie, présentée à la Galerie d’art du Centre culturel de l’Université de Sherbrooke. « Il y a des toiles que je n’avais pas revues depuis leur création, il y a plus de 20 ans », remarque le peintre de renom. L’exposition, qui couvre 25 ans de production artistique, ne se présente pas comme une rétrospective. Elle permet quand même de prendre la pleine mesure du chemin parcouru par le prolifique créateur en plus de deux décennies. Elle donne aussi à voir une signature qui s’est affirmée au fil du temps.
