Scarecrow
The Scarecrow is a beloved figure from the magical Land of Oz — the first companion to join Dorothy Gale and her little dog Toto on their journey to see the great and powerful Wizard. Though made of straw and convinced he lacks a brain, it is his insight, empathy, and unwavering loyalty that guide the group through many challenges. Encouraged by Dorothy to ask the Wizard for wisdom, he discovers along the way that intelligence is not merely a gift bestowed, but a quality revealed through experience, reflection, and heart. By the end of their adventure, the Scarecrow emerges not only as a trusted friend but as one of the most thoughtful and perceptive characters in all of Oz.
In their sculptural interpretation, Coderch & Malavia delve into the deeper transformation the Scarecrow undergoes. Their work captures more than the character’s outer form — it reflects his inner journey toward self-awareness and human understanding. As the Scarecrow awakens to his own reality, he begins to question appearances, reject illusion, and act with purpose. His path becomes one of personal discovery: defining goals, understanding his motivations, confronting fears, and ultimately, uncovering his own identity.
Through this lens, the Scarecrow transcends his origin as a whimsical figure of fantasy and becomes a universal symbol of growth — reminding us that wisdom is often found not at the destination, but in the courage to begin the journey.
