Mark Khaisman: exploring light, memory, and material
Born in Kiev (Ukraine) in 1958, Mark Khaisman studied architecture at the Moscow Architectural Institute before pursuing a career across architecture, animation, and stained glass design.
This multidisciplinary foundation informs his artistic practice, where structure, light, and storytelling intersect seamlessly. Khaisman is internationally recognized for his innovative use of packing tape as a medium. Working with translucent brown tape layered onto illuminated Plexiglas panels, he creates compelling images that evoke cinematic stills, vintage photography, and classical portraiture.
Through subtle manipulations of light and density, Khaisman "paints with light," transforming an ordinary material into a sophisticated exploration of memory, perception, and narrative.
