Biography

"Clarity is an act of generosity.”

Marc Tetro is a multidisciplinary artist and designer based in Montreal, Canada. Working across painting, works on paper, metal, graphic design, animation, and product design, his practice is rooted in an ongoing exploration of perception through reduction. Moving fluidly between disciplines, Tetro approaches each body of work as an opportunity to distill the complexity of the visual world into its most essential forms.

A self-taught artist, Tetro has developed a distinctive visual language defined by bold contour lines, saturated color, and a refined economy of form. His work explores how reduction can become a means of perception. By removing visual excess, he seeks to reveal the essential character of a subject while creating images that offer moments of quiet within an increasingly saturated visual culture. Rather than demanding interpretation, his work offers clarity—an invitation to slow down, look closely, and rediscover the familiar.

Each work begins with an extensive process of digital sketching, through which forms are refined until only the essential image remains. The composition is then transferred to canvas and built through multiple thin layers of acrylic paint, creating a remarkably smooth, uninterrupted surface. Strong black contours and luminous fields of color generate a compelling tension between flatness and volume, translating the three-dimensional world into an elegant economy of line, shape, and colour.

Whether working on canvas or paper, Tetro investigates the relationship between simplicity and recognition, exploring how the fewest visual elements can evoke presence, emotion, and memory. His work is grounded in the belief that simplicity is not the absence of complexity, but a means of revealing it. Through reduction, he creates space for viewers to pause, to see without distraction, and to reconnect with the quiet power of observation. In a culture increasingly defined by visual excess, Tetro's paintings remind us that clarity can restore not only our attention, but also our sense of wonder.
