    Friday May 8th, 2026, 5pm

    GLR41 Montréal | 41 Rue Saint-Paul O.

Galerie LeRoyer presents Ever Thus, a solo exhibition by Miami-based artist Dan Alva.

The title Ever Thus evokes the idea of continuity, an enduring thread that runs through time. In this body of work, Alva revisits classical imagery through a distinctly contemporary lens, drawing from art history while simultaneously questioning its permanence.

Rooted in a lineage of artists with Spanish heritage, Alva developed his approach early on in his father’s garage, where experimentation, construction, and deconstruction shaped his understanding of image-making. That spirit of reinvention continues to define his practice today.

Across the exhibition, recognizable fragments of classical compositions emerge through intricate layers of camouflage and visual interference. These works are not reproductions but reinterpretations, where historical references are disrupted, concealed, and reframed. In Ever Thus, tradition and rebellion exist side by side, positioning the past not as something fixed, but as material continuously reshaped by the present.

At once seductive and unstable, the surfaces of these works invite prolonged looking. Images reveal themselves gradually, shifting between clarity and concealment, presence and disappearance. In this tension, Alva proposes history not as a closed narrative, but as something continually rewritten through each new act of seeing.
