GLR Montréal is delighted to present High as a Kite, Rock Therrien’s latest solo exhibition.
Born in 1970 in Armagh, Quebec, Rock Therrien is a world-renowned contemporary artist, known for his playful and bold interpretations of popular culture and nostalgic media. Inspired by childhood memories and the collective cultural memory, Rock reimagines familiar imagery, imbuing his pieces with humour and wit. Bridging the generations, Rock’s practice maintains a dialogue with the Pop Art movement. Evolving his practice, Rock began to incorporate neon elements, imparting an immediacy and dynamic energy to his mixed media on wood artworks.
Each new piece in his latest collection carries its own singular narrative, embodied by iconic characters. The visual complexity of Rock’s work remains apt in our fast-paced world. He comments on the flurry of media and imagery that we encounter everyday with a humorous edge that invites reflection from viewers of varying backgrounds and ages, uniting us through shared cultural references and experiences.
Therrien has been exhibited extensively throughout Canada, and internationally. His artworks are held in numerous public and private collections across the world. He continues to live and work in the Laurentian region of Quebec.
