Renner’s work considers how a life takes form through accumulation: encounters, choices, diversions, and points of intersection. A single decision can redirect what follows; separate paths can meet briefly and continue changed. Rather than illustrating these ideas literally, Renner builds visual systems in which individual elements gain meaning through their relationship to one another. Structure is essential, but never absolute. Precision gives way to complexity, and what initially appears controlled begins to behave almost organically.

This tension between calculation and intuition runs throughout his practice. Repetition produces rhythm, intersections generate unexpected shifts in colour and depth, and small variations can alter the entire composition. The work becomes less about arriving at a fixed image than observing how something develops through a sequence of decisions. For Renner, connection is both a formal device and a way of thinking about experience: one point leads to another, and the final form carries the trace of everything that happened along the way.
