James Bond could compromise on almost anything, except how his martini was made. In Shaken Not Stirred, Joe Curtis takes 007’s famously particular drink order and turns it into a vintage postage stamp, giving one of cinema’s most sophisticated characters a playful five-cent price tag.

“A postage stamp is meant to carry a message. In Joe Curtis’s work, a few carefully chosen words can change the meaning of an entire image.”
Joe Curtis is a self-taught contemporary artist based in London, best known for his paintings inspired by vintage postage stamps. Drawing from cinema, popular culture, and everyday relationships, he reworks familiar scenes with humour and unexpected titles, often giving well-known images an entirely different meaning.
Working primarily with acrylic on canvas, Curtis combines the nostalgic look of traditional postage stamps with contemporary references. His works play with the relationship between image and text, inviting viewers to look beyond the original scene and discover a new story.
